Aunessilta Bridge

Posted by Krisu (Tampere, Finland) on 23 June 2008 in Architecture and Portfolio.

This bridge was designed by the architect Georg Schreck and built in 1898-99 using Teisko granite (local). The bridge is 46.5 m long, 5 m wide and it has a clear span of 19 m. The bridge was designed to be indestructible and fireproof.
Aunessilta Bridge carried regular traffic untill 1983 when the parallel Kaitavesi Bridge was completed. Since then the old arch bridge has served pedestrians and cyclists. It was accepted for preservation in 1982.
