Judy from Brooksville, Florida, United StatesYour dishes always intrigue me; this looks delicious, though I don't know if I have ever heard of this combination before. Green onions, olives, salt & pepper, I think, and are there any herbs? 12 Aug 2009 6:44pm @Judy: Thank you :) No herbs this time, there was none in my kitchen at that moment. Some fresh basil would do beautifully with this salad! This was my lunch actually the other day. There is a little bit lettuce and rucola (do you count that to herbs or salads?) and salt and pepper but not too much AND there is good extra virgin olive oil and white Italian balsamico. Lambspun from Madison, Maine, United StatesOh my....this looks delicious! My 3 sons are chefs and I am demanding this on their next menu ;) Very scrumptious shot! 12 Aug 2009 7:43pm @Lambspun: Thank you! I'd pay to see your sons faces when you tell them about their next new menu, haha. But I can assure you, this combination is deeelicious! bekkah from United StatesI never would have thought to add strawberries to this...sounds wonderful!! 13 Aug 2009 12:17pm @bekkah: You should try, haven't heard anybody to disappoint yet :) Judy from Brooksville, Florida, United StatesBack again ... thanks for your response! Okay, some fresh basil, and your "rucola" might be what we call arugula, a little salt & pepper, some "good" extra virgin olive oil and white Italian balsamic vinegar. That I've never heard of. Have you ever had strawberries with regular balsamic vinegar and just a little bit of sugar? It is delicious! 13 Aug 2009 5:04pm @Judy: You are right, it's arugula, my rucola ;) (Sinappikaali in Finnish :D) The balsamico is not so strong at its taste than vinegar, it's much softer, and the texture can be thicker than plain vinegar. If you use vinegar, don't ..hmm.. over do it . I'm going to taste strawberries in your way with vinegar and sugar, definitely! Don't know, if you know the recipe below, but it sounds very much like yours. Strawberries seem to like some tartness of citrus fruits or vinegar acids to taste even more delicious. LEMON MARINATED STRAWBERRIES Fresh strawberries The fresh juice of few lemons (or limes) (some very thin slices of the fruits skin, only the yellow skin, not the white under) Sugar (you can add spices as well if you want, mint, maybe ginger – whatever you think will taste good) - Cut the strawberries into halves and put them into a bowl. Add 2-3 (or after your taste) tblsp sugar and mix well. - Squeeze the lemons, you need enough to cover the strawberries. (add the skin slices too) - Let the strawberries to absorb the taste for 2-3 hours and then you serve them with the juices. (and with whipped cream) Judy from Brooksville, Florida, United StatesBack again, again. :D I'm going to try your Lemon Marinated Strawberries - that sounds delicious. Here we call that bit of citrus skin (w/o the white), zest, so I understand. And then the whipped cream......sounds wonderful. Thank you! 14 Aug 2009 1:18pm |
